Interim CEO (Biotechnology)

Our Client is a UK-based, privately funded, clinical stage biotechnology company pioneering the development of oncolytic immunotherapies to treat cancer.

With a wealth of pre-clinical data and encouraging early clinical data, these are very exciting times for the company, particularly given the growing interest that is being shown in this approach by both clinicians and large pharma. The potential exists to be able to effectively treat a range of cancers, many of which are currently notoriously difficult to treat.

The need has emerged for an Interim CEO who will be expected to:-

  • Ensure added focus and momentum to the clinical programme with the aim of generating quality and persuasive data that will be of real interest to clinicians, regulatory authorities and potential pharma partners.
  • Play a prominent part in discussions with potential pharma partners.
  • Lead and manage the small team of current employees and where necessary, identify and appoint additional resources over the coming 18-24 months to ensure timely achievement of agreed milestones.

Candidates will have previous CEO experience within the biotech sector, be able to think strategically but also capable of ensuring that implementation of agreed plans proceeds smoothly. They will understand the importance of working closely with the company’s investors.

They will recognise the importance of an effective external communications programme to ensure that awareness of the company and of the positive data it is generating are shared with other (global) members of the life sciences and healthcare communities.

They will be very commercially aware and comfortable in identifying, pursuing, handling and completing various funding, partnering, licensing etc. transactions.

This interim role is likely to be of 18 (24?) months duration and demand not less than 3, but more likely 4-5 days per week of commitment.

Home location of the successful candidate is not critical, but one can anticipate the need for regular visits to Glasgow and Jersey, as well as some international travel.

This is an excellent opportunity in an ambitious operating in an exciting area.

If this opportunity is of interest and a good fit with your own areas of experience and expertise, please make contact with Geoff Newman (Interea) as soon as possible.
