Financial Controller (Ideally Permanent)

Our client is a well-funded drug discovery biopharmaceutical company, conveniently located in the East / South of England. Its exciting technology means that the company is well positioned to develop high value therapeutics with the potential to cure a range of serious genetic diseases – an area of real unmet need.

A brand new position has been created – namely that of Finance Manager / Controller who will join what is currently a small and versatile team, but one that is expected to increase substantially over the coming 12-24 months.

This is a permanent full-time position, reporting to the CFO, and which carries the following areas of responsibility :-

  • Establishment and maintenance of budgetary controls and procedures.
  • Maintenance of accounting system including accounts payable through to monthly financial reporting.
  • Liaison with auditors and other external accountants.
  • Interaction with scientific teams to ensure appropriateness of project / cost reporting.
  • Initiation and maintenance of purchase order systems.

Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to work with the CFO on a range of other activities, including overseeing treasury (cash management), tax planning and working with other senior leaders on risk and compliance matters.

The successful candidate will:-

  • Have a CMA/CGA/CA accounting qualification.   Good knowledge of IFRS/GAAP.
  • Have experience of managing payroll, payroll reporting and other associated compliance matters
  • Have knowledge and experience of using computerized accounting systems (Dynamics GP/Great Plains/Quickbooks software experience a plus)
  • Be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel)
  • Have a minimum 5 years work experience in a financial/accounting role (work experience in a research environment and/or multinational company an advantage)
  • Be extremely well organized, self-motivated and able to work well independently under minimum supervision.
  • Have excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.
